PREPARING YOUR QUILT
No pinning or basting is necessary.
Please do not add buttons other hard objects to the quilt before quilting.
Your quilt top should be trimmed to the final size, we will trim the quilt to the outside edges once the quilting is finished. Measure your quilt across the top, bottom and center. All measurements should be the same to ensure puckers do not occur in the quilting process. Borders that do not lay flat will cause tucks, pleats or fullness.
If your quilt does not have a border, we highly recommend that you ‘stay stitch’ all the way around the outside of your quilt at something less than ¼” to ensure that the seams do not pull apart during the quilting process. This stitching will not show once the binding is attached.
Please clip and remove all loose threads from the front and back of the pieced top. The threads on the back can show through to the front of the finished quilt, and may cause issues with the quilting.
Press, press, press (not iron, which can stretch seams) seams flat on the quilt top. (We can press for a fee.)
Backing needs to be at least five inches (5”) bigger than your top in all directions. If the back consists of two or more pieces, the selvages must be removed from these seams. (Selvages can cause the machine to miss stitches.) Press the entire backing and seams. Borders should be flat, otherwise this may result in tucks and pleats to accommodate the fullness.
